Mine was my very first party - a little no-name event down in the Fulton Markets area. I was terribly underage and was returning from a Chinese food place where I'd called my parents from a payphone to say we were back from the movie and at a friend's house... yeah.
When I got back to the venue the cops had surrounded all points of entry and the promoter was out there. He saw me about to sneak away and called me over as he talked to the cops.
I did my best to hide my face but look casual until they left, and thankfully was not shunted into the back of a squaddie, to wait for them to call the 'rents. The rest of the event actually was allowed to go on without a hitch (I'm guessing due to some palm greasing). Not really famous, but it was the most memorable for me!

I would have to say Someearly 95 thing wade put on. We showed up with lights at some big old multi-story bldg used for school administration or something. Anyway, he was really sketchy about where to go in and come out. He did indicate it was renegade so we decided to leave the lighting rigs in the car & check the scene. Mind you this is not early Chicago renegade days like Jif or Gatorave so we were pretty seasoned already.. I think the party name is like Winter Wonderland or something. Christmas day or shortly thereafter I tink. Since it had been recently vacated maybe Wade assumed the heat might still be on but no dice. Judging by the wingin it nature of this thing we opted to leave the lights in the car but stay to watch it unfold. People found a bunch of left files and equipment and totally had their way with everything. It was @ that point we decided to jet. It went off okay until 2 or 3 if I remember correctly. But it wasn't pretty when the cops showed up. A bunch of kids got in trouble for destruction of property. Wade obviously got some heat for that but he must have had some immunity-enabling friends somewhere!

I remember people saying Fantasy Island, a 3333 party was probably the most panicked and crazy. Everyone was locked upstairs for like 2 hours!

I always felt worst for the dudes running nitrous with no escape plane. One time in St.Louis we brought the tank to a Superstars of Love party in some downtown vacant retail place if I recall. We set up in the basement. Everyone came in thru the alley/loading dock area in the back, and the front door was across from lower level stairs. The cops came in thru the back at the party's main entrance so we ran the tank upstairs and walked out the front door where my boy's Van had been parked. We just drove away, no problems.

I was always surprised at how cool the cops were most of the time, b/c I ran drinks often and would never get hassled or ticketed; Just get my ass outta` there.

Nothing like the good ol days where the heat worked the door in the desolate whse areas for $5O/hr. tho! I'm surprised I don't remember summa their names!

R U talking about the place you had to go under the train bridge through gates and go inside down some stairs? I have often wondered what that venue was intended for.

I remember a party at the Halsted indoor mall in basically the last part of the hay day (February 1999) It was for the valentines day party. The party had 2 rooms and a hall way for dj's and around 2-3 in the am the lights came on the cops then searched every person leaving and checked id's. They had like 3 patty wagons out there to put people in it was ridiculous. Then when we were leaving some random ass ghetto guy(you know if you have been to raves anywhere in the southside everyone has dealt with people like this) said to one of my girls " DAMN BABY SHIIIIIT ARE THOSE SOME MOTHA FUKIN JORDACHE JEANS YOU WEARIN.... CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had forgotten about Moonflower! I remember I was walking around the grounds with two friends who had just smoked a huge joint when we saw helicopters circling and one of them goes with wide eyes "Do you think they're gonna have helicopters rides here???!!!" 5 minutes later we see the national guard with riot gear and machine guns and got the fuck out of there.

Spank the Monkey - It was summer of 93 I think in a warehouse on the west side of Chicago on Roosevelt rd. The party was just getting started, I think the first DJ was on when the cops showed up in Riot gear. They lined everyone up on the walls and searched each of us. On our way out, Tron made some comment to the local law enforcement who promptly let him know that he'd throw Jeff in the river and no one would find his body. We made our escape without anyone having to take a swim that night and went and sat on the beach all night instead.

Well, I'll have to say that this one isn't a Chicago bust, nor is it a memorable party. But I'll always remember it fondly.

So it was me, Matt Massive, Julia and someone else whose face I remember, but his name eludes me at the moment. The party was in Franklin, the fine, upstanding suburb of Milwaukee, circa 1998 perhaps. All I recall about the party was that Danny the Wildchild was playing. Pretty standard party. It got busted around dawn. Nothing special to report there.

Anyway, we all head out to the car. Matt's got his late '80s Volkswagen Rabbit, and he whips a shitty out of the gravel-lined parking lot. Of course this was an unwise decision, as the Franklin fuzz immediately pulls us over -- like 50 yards from the parking lot exit.

We're completely amused. And all quite sober. The typical whitebread cop is ready for some serious action, as I'm sure he's seen a number of reports on the ol' teevee. DRUG LADEN RAVE PARTIES.

Now, I'm wearing a fedora. The cop continually refers to me as "the Blues Brother" and suspects that I'm a major drug dealer and he's landed a big bust. (Which is pretty amusing if you knew me then.) He'll make chief for sure!

Continually insinuating that we've got some sort of drugs, he demands to search the car. Matt refuses on political grounds, and cites the fact that he has no probable cause. The zealous cop demands we all step out of the car. He's really upset at this point, particularly because we seem to know the law better than him, and his high hopes are quickly being crushed.

Per my recollection, Matt then gets into it with the cop and we all refuse to get out of the car. The cop is turning redder and redder. Flustered, the cop sputters for a bit, unsure what else he can do, then tells us to get the hell out of there.

"And if you ever come back to Franklin, I'll throw you all in jail for trespassing."

So we never went back to Franklin.
